Guide
Games like Wordle to compare with friends
The best part of a daily puzzle is the group chat afterwards: everyone solves the same one, in their own time, and the results arrive one by one through the day. Nobody has to arrange a game night, and nobody waits for their turn.
What decides whether it works is less the puzzle than three questions: what your friends enjoy solving, whether everyone can play it on the device they have, and whether you are all comparing the same puzzle. These three picks cover words, maps and rankings. One of them is ours, Rank 100, and it is marked as ours.
Everything said about Waffle and Worldle below was read off the games' own pages (wafflegame.net and worldle.teuteuf.fr) on 18 October 2026.
Pick by what you want to solve
Waffle: rearrange letters
- In the browser
- Daily Waffle
- Copy your result
Choose Waffle if you like working with letters that are already on the board. You drag them anywhere to rearrange them into the right words, horizontally and vertically, and the colours tell you whether a letter is in its place or belongs elsewhere in its word.
Every Waffle can be solved in 10 swaps and you get 15. Each swap you still have when it is solved earns a star, so the result you compare is stars, up to five. The finished screen copies your result for the chat.
Make it the Daily Waffle for everyone. The weekly Deluxe Waffle, the archive and the 90-second Challenge are different puzzles.
Right pick when: Your group are word people and like a puzzle where every letter is in front of you from the start.
Worldle: recognise a country
- In the browser, or its app
- Six guesses
- Spoiler-free share grid
Choose Worldle if your group would rather think in maps. You get the silhouette of a country or territory and six guesses, and after each one it tells you how far away the answer is, in which direction, and how close you are as a percentage.
When you finish, its share button copies a grid of coloured squares that shows how close each guess came without naming the country. It plays in a web browser with nothing to download, and there is an official app as well.
After the main puzzle come bonus rounds — the neighbours, the capital, the flag. Compare the main round, so everyone is scored on the same thing.
Right pick when: The group knows a map better than a dictionary.
Rank 100: go deeper on a real list (our game)
- iPhone app
- One list a day
- The same list for everyone
Choose Rank 100 if your group would rather test what it knows about real top-100 rankings. Its daily puzzle is the Daily Challenge. One puzzle a day, the same for everyone: a list and five guesses. Every guess must rank deeper than your last. Reaching #100 is a perfect Rank 100.
Bank to stop and keep your rank. Run out, and your rank still counts. So the result you compare is one number, the deepest rank you reached.
It is played in the Rank 100 app on iPhone, each of you on your own phone and in your own time, and you can share your climb from the app when you finish.
Right pick when: The group likes trivia more than wordplay, and everyone in it has an iPhone.
Keeping it fair
- Agree on the game and the day before anyone starts, and compare like with like: Waffle stars, Worldle guesses and a Rank 100 rank measure different things.
- Check when each one turns over. Waffle serves everyone a new puzzle at midnight GMT unless a player switches it to their local midnight in Settings, and Worldle changes at midnight in each player's own time zone. In Rank 100 everyone gets the same list.
- Solve first, share second. Keep screenshots of the board, and any talk of answers, out of the chat until everyone who is playing has finished.
Questions, answered
What are some games like Wordle to play with friends?
Waffle if your group likes words, Worldle if it prefers maps, and Rank 100, our game, if it prefers trivia about real top-100 rankings. Each is one puzzle a day, so everyone plays when they have a moment and you compare results afterwards.
Do we all have to play at the same time?
No. Each person solves the day’s puzzle on their own time, then shares the result. If your group wants everyone answering at once with a host, that is a different kind of evening from a daily puzzle.
Can everyone play in a browser?
Waffle and Worldle, yes: both play in a web browser without an install. Rank 100's Daily Challenge is played in the iPhone app, so check that before you invite the group.
Today's list is the same for everyone.
One climb a day. Same list as everyone else.
